During the 1940’s, a big part of my family’s life was the radio and often we would all gather around it to hear funny or thrilling radio programs, sports events, and of course, the up to the minute news. And then, there was the popular music of the day that was played day and night, one thing my older brothers and sisters loved. Recently, one of the most popular songs of that era came to mind. It’s title was : “Accentuate The Positive.” As I was thinking the other day of it’s lyric’s, my first thought was: “Wow, the message of that song may be just as relevant now, if not more, than in those war time years.” This is what it says in part: "You’ve got to accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative, latch on to the affirmative, but don’t mess with Mr. In-between.” 

       To simplify the message, it was reminding folks back then to emphasize and focus more on positive things. Keep in mind that most Americans at the time were worried about the war and their family members who were in it. Even back then the song’s message was not really an original thought. God had said it first. Philippians 4:8 reads: “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” If you’re like me, you are tired of hearing depressing news on a daily basis. Perhaps you hesitate to turn on the news, or have stopped altogether. We wish people everywhere would “eliminate the negative” talk that is dominating today’s conversations and start focusing on the positive things. Yes, even now, there are positive things that have arisen because of this ordeal. To “latch on to the affirmative” is to do exactly what verse advises, to focus only on the positive. 

       Finally, messing with “Mr. In-between”, in my opinion, is to be unstable in our faith, to have one foot in and one foot out or as Ephesians 4:14 says, to not know what we believe, to be easily persuaded by anything the world says, and forget God’s faithful promises. Just as sure as you are reading this blog today, good days and many celebrations are up ahead. Recently, Britain’s Queen Elizabeth reminded her people that they would soon be together with their family and friends again. When I heard those words, I said “Amen” because that is exactly what is going to happen. So, let’s look happily forward to that day.

Durante la década de los 40’s, una gran parte de la vida de mi familia era la radio y, a menudo, todos nos reuníamos a su alrededor para escuchar programas de radio divertidos o emocionantes, eventos deportivos y, por supuesto, las últimas noticias. Y luego, estaba la música popular del día que se tocaba día y noche, algo que a mis hermanos y hermanas mayores les encantaba. Recientemente, una de las canciones americanas más populares de esa época vino a mi mente. Su título era: "Acentuar lo positivo". Como estaba pensando el otro día en su letra, mi primer pensamiento fue: "Guau, el mensaje de esa canción puede ser tan relevante ahora, si no más, que en esos años de guerra". Esto es lo que dice en parte: tienes que acentuar lo positivo, eliminar lo negativo, aferrarte a lo afirmativo, pero no te metas con el Sr. Intermedio ".
       Para simplificar el mensaje, en aquellos tiempos le recordaba a la gente que enfatizara y se enfocara más en cosas positivas. Tenga en cuenta que la mayoría de los estadounidenses en ese momento estaban preocupados por la guerra y los miembros de su familia que estaban en ella. Incluso entonces, el mensaje de la canción no era realmente un pensamiento original. Dios lo había dicho primero. Filipenses 4: 8 dice: "Finalmente, hermanos y hermanas, lo que sea verdad, lo que sea noble, lo que sea correcto, lo que sea puro, lo que sea encantador, lo que sea admirable, si algo es excelente o digno de elogio, piensen en tales cosas". Si usted es como yo, está cansado(a) de escuchar noticias deprimentes a diario. Tal vez dude en encender las noticias, o se haya detenido por completo. Deseamos que las personas en todas partes "eliminen las conversaciones negativas" que dominan las conversaciones de hoy y comiencen a enfocarse en las cosas positivas. Sí, incluso ahora, hay cosas positivas que han surgido debido a esta terrible experiencia. "Aferrarse a lo afirmativo" es hacer exactamente lo que el verso aconseja, enfocarse solo en lo positivo.

       Finalmente, jugando con el "Sr. Intermedio ”, en mi opinión, es ser inestable en nuestra fe, tener un pie adentro y un pie afuera, o como dice Efesios 4:14, no saber lo que creemos, ser fácilmente persuadido por cualquier cosa que el mundo diga , y olvidar las fieles promesas de Dios. Tan seguro como está leyendo este blog hoy, hay buenos días y muchas celebraciones por delante. Recientemente, la reina Isabel de Gran Bretaña le recordó a su gente que pronto volverían a estar juntos con sus familiares y amigos. Cuando escuché esas palabras, dije "Amén" porque eso es exactamente lo que sucederá. Entonces, esperemos felizmente  ese día.

 Knowing how some people are, I’m sure there are many Christians saying and believing that the current worldwide pandemic means that God is fed up with the sin and violence He sees all around and is punishing us because of it. Is it? I’m not saying that can’t be true but on the other hand, if God’s ways are higher than ours, as well as His thoughts, how can any human being know for sure? When you get sick or something awful happens to you, why does it have to be God’s chastisement? Why can’t it be because you got careless or just simply made a mistake? For one example, when people die of lung cancer, could it be that excessive smoking had something to do with it? 

       1 Corinthians 6:19 says that our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit and before that Paul had written: “Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple.” (1 Cor. 3:16-17) Many people say they won’t read the bible because it’s vague or too hard to understand. These last two verses are pretty clear to me. Don’t you agree? Therefore, why can’t this current Coronavirus ordeal just be a product of the world’s mismanagement, apathy or carelessness? But even if the current pandemic is, in fact, God’s judgment, do you really think everyone will get it and do something about it? When you have a chance, read the 4th chapter of the book of Amos. In it you will see that God sent famine, droughts, ruined crops plagues, military defeats, and death in order to chastise the people and they still did not return to the Lord. And these were God’s own people. 

       One thing I know for sure is that God knows exactly why all this is happening and His purpose will be fulfilled. Because of it, many people will draw closer to Him and those that do will be the recipients of His greatest Gift, which is Christ and His salvation. Isn’t that amazing? If that is what it takes for souls everywhere to be saved, then what we’re going through was all worth it.

       Sabiendo cómo son algunas personas, estoy seguro de que hay muchos cristianos que dicen y creen que la pandemia mundial actual significa que Dios está harto del pecado y la violencia que ve a su alrededor y nos está castigando por ello. ¿Lo es? No digo que eso no podrá ser cierto pero otro lado, si los caminos de Dios son más altos que los nuestros, así como sus pensamientos, ¿cómo puede estar seguro un ser humano de que así es? Cuando se enferma o le sucede algo horrible, ¿por qué tiene que ser castigo de Dios? ¿Por qué no puede ser que te descuidaste o simplemente cometiste un error? Por ejemplo, cuando las personas mueren de cáncer de pulmón, ¿podría ser que fumar en exceso tuvo algo que ver con ello?

        1 Corintios 6:19 dice que nuestros cuerpos son los templos del Espíritu Santo y antes de eso Pablo había escrito: "¿No saben que ustedes mismos son el templo de Dios y que el Espíritu de Dios mora en medio de ustedes? Si alguien destruye el templo de Dios, Dios destruirá a esa persona; porque el templo de Dios es sagrado, y ustedes juntos son ese templo ". (1 Cor. 3: 16-17) Muchas personas dicen que no leerán la Biblia porque es vaga o demasiado difícil de entender. Estos dos últimos versos son bastante claros para mí. ¿No está de acuerdo? Por lo tanto, ¿por qué esta terrible prueba actual de Coronavirus no puede ser producto de la mala gestión, la apatía o el descuido del mundo? Pero incluso si la pandemia actual es, de hecho, el juicio de Dios, ¿realmente crees que todos lo entenderán y harán algo al respecto? Cuando tenga una oportunidad, lea el cuarto capítulo del libro de Amós. En él verá que Dios envió hambruna, sequías, plagas de cultivos en ruinas, derrotas militares y muerte para castigar a la gente y aún así no regresaron al Señor. Y estos eran el pueblo de Dios.

       Una cosa que sé con certeza es que Dios sabe exactamente por qué todo esto está sucediendo y su propósito se cumplirá. Debido a esto, muchas personas se acercarán a Él y los que lo hagan serán los destinatarios de Su mayor don, que es Cristo y su salvación. ¿No es asombroso? Si eso es lo que se necesita para que las almas de todas partes se salven, entonces todo esto valió la pena.
