Knowing how some people are, I’m sure there are many Christians saying and believing that the current worldwide pandemic means that God is fed up with the sin and violence He sees all around and is punishing us because of it. Is it? I’m not saying that can’t be true but on the other hand, if God’s ways are higher than ours, as well as His thoughts, how can any human being know for sure? When you get sick or something awful happens to you, why does it have to be God’s chastisement? Why can’t it be because you got careless or just simply made a mistake? For one example, when people die of lung cancer, could it be that excessive smoking had something to do with it?

1 Corinthians 6:19 says that our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit and before that Paul had written: “Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple.” (1 Cor. 3:16-17) Many people say they won’t read the bible because it’s vague or too hard to understand. These last two verses are pretty clear to me. Don’t you agree? Therefore, why can’t this current Coronavirus ordeal just be a product of the world’s mismanagement, apathy or carelessness? But even if the current pandemic is, in fact, God’s judgment, do you really think everyone will get it and do something about it? When you have a chance, read the 4th chapter of the book of Amos. In it you will see that God sent famine, droughts, ruined crops plagues, military defeats, and death in order to chastise the people and they still did not return to the Lord. And these were God’s own people.

One thing I know for sure is that God knows exactly why all this is happening and His purpose will be fulfilled. Because of it, many people will draw closer to Him and those that do will be the recipients of His greatest Gift, which is Christ and His salvation. Isn’t that amazing? If that is what it takes for souls everywhere to be saved, then what we’re going through was all worth it.
