Someone Else Will Do It

In a troubling news item several years ago, we learned of a young lady by the name of Kitty Genovese that was brutally murdered in a New York City residential district. The assault lasted about thirty minutes and was witnessed by more than thirty people, yet not one of them called to report the attack to police. Perhaps you are thinking that these witnesses are coldhearted or uncaring, right? Not necessarily! When interviewed afterwards, almost all of them said they just assumed that somebody had called already. Sadly, there are many people like that in church. They realize the church needs people to perform many necessary tasks, yet they assume someone else will do it. Thank God, there are still a few who are like the prophet Isaiah. (Isa 6:8) They hear the Lord's voice say "Whom shall I send?" and they respond, "Here I am Lord, send me!" Take the initiative! If you feel God is leading you to get involved, then by all means dig in. Instead of thinking someone else will do it, imagine that no one else is available but you.
