I'm sure I have written on this topic before but I believe it merits repeating. One thing that distresses me, as I'm sure it does some of you, is the sad fact that some Christians we know go to folks who are not saved to seek advice or share their burdens with. It is true that the Bible advises us: confess your faults one to another, (James 5:16) but that letter was, and is, addressed to the followers of Christ. This was happening in Old Testament times as well. Isaiah wrote: Woe to the rebellious children, saith the Lord, that take counsel, but not of me. (Isa 30:1) Why should we take advice from non-believers when the Bible says that the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God? (1 Cor 3:19) This is not to imply that there are no capable counselors in the world. Nevertheless, their advice is not always in line with the Word of God. Dear reader, when you need advice, turn to God and His word first. And if you want to share a problem, do it with a fellow believer. Resorting to outside advice is not only risky, it displeases God, as well.
