How would you feel if someone, out of the blue, would pay all your outstanding debts? I’m not a very expressive or demonstrative person but I sincerely believe that if someone one day were to pay my house, car, and all my other debts in full, I would ecstatically lose all emotional control. It would be a dream come true, something to shout about. Even as you are reading today’s blog, I suspect that a few of you have found it very difficult to get rid of this this haunting thought: you have debts you worry may eventually overwhelm you. You have found it hard to find peace of mind and may have even lost much sleep thinking about it.
Getting into a financial mess is no different than getting into any other kind of trouble. The truth is that it can happen to anybody. Nevertheless, those of us who really know God should know that He can rescue us from any kind of trouble, the financial ones included. One particular promise that comes to mind regarding this situation is 1 Corinthians 10:13. Most bible versions use the word “temptation” for this verse but some bible readers immediately think it refers to the temptations of the flesh. More exactly, it refers to the trials of life. The NAB (New American Bible) version says it this way: “No trial has come to you but what is human. God is faithful and will not let you be tried beyond your strength; but with the trial he will also provide a way out, so that you may be able to bear it.” There is your promise! God is faithful and if you seek His help He will come through for you, so relax. If you make a sincere effort to do something about it, the Lord will do the rest.
In a much greater magnitude, the Lord already paid an enormous debt we could never possibly pay. I am referring to the sin debt. Had Jesus not gone to the cross to shed His blood for our sins, we would all be doomed today to a Christ-less eternity. Colossians 2:14 NLT says it this way: “He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.” Can you see it? He cancelled our sin debt! Now that is really something to shout about.

Memory verse for the week: (James 5:20) “Remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins.”
